New Band Watch: Mogwai

While not new to the scene, the Scottish rock band, Mogwai, is really creating waves these days.  The group just announced that they will tour North America in 2014 in support of their 8th album named "Rave Tapes."  Last week, Mogwai released a single from the album, "Remurdered", for fans has received glowing reviews thus far.

The tour will cover 27 dates and will kick off on April 21 in Albuquerque, NM and will wrap up May 25 in Vancouver, BC.

The band got their start back in 1995 in Glasgow, Scotland.  Mogwai is made up of Stuart Braithwaite, John Cummings, Barry Burns, Dominic Aitchison, and Martin Bulloch.  They are known for not including many lyrics in their music. Braithwaite said once, “I think most people are not used to having no lyrics to focus on. Lyrics are a real comfort to some people. I guess they like to sing along and when they can’t do that with us they can get a bit upset."

The band credits Fugazi, MC5, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Pixies, The Cure as their major influences.
