Up and Coming Artist: Emeli Sande

Emeli Sandé  is a hot up and coming 26-year-old  recording and songwriter from Scotland. She gained attention in 2009 after she was featured on the track "Diamond Rings" by the rapper Chipmunk.  That song reached the top 10 single on the UK Singles Chart. The following year, she was featured on the rap track "Never Be Your Woman" by Wiley, which also became a top ten hit. Simon Cowell, who constantly has a knack for discovering fresh talent, called Sandé "his favourite songwriter at the minute".   She was awarded the Brit Awards Critics' Choice in 2012. In 2012 she received the Brit Awards Critics' Choice Award. Her writing is so in demand and popular that she has penned songs for talented artists like Cher Lloyd, Susan Boyle, Alicia Keys,  Parade,  Gabrielle, Preeya Kalidas, Rihanna, Leona Lewis, Alesha Dixon, Cheryl Cole, Tinie Tempah, Ella Henderson and Mutya Keisha Siobhan.

In 2010, she landed a deal with Virgin Records.  Her first single, "Heaven" was released in August of 2011. To date, she has managed to obtain three number-one singles across the UK and Ireland.  Those singles include "Read All About It" with Professor Green, "Next to Me" and "Beneath Your Beautiful" a collaboration with Labrinth. Her album Our Version of Ever stayed for 7 non-consecutive weeks at number 1 and became the best-selling album of 2012 in the UK. You also might have noticed her perform at both the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the London Olympics in 2012.
