MLB Standings – August 9

The first week of August has passed and now the MLB standings start indicating playoff possibilities.  Matchups between rival teams become a little more interesting and winning and losing streaks might be more meaningful for the October playoffs.

After the world’s saddest week for the Chicago Cubs, Kris Bryan is looking good on his new team, The Giants, who are setting the trend for the National League.  The Dodgers are not giving in to the Giants and fans have noticed amazing games from Max Scherzer and Trea Turner.  In the NL East, The Phillies and the Mets have been neck and neck for the week.

Happening in the American League, The Rays debuted their own major trade acquisition, Nelson Cruz.  The White Sox and the Astros aren’t rolling over to let the Rays dominate any time soon.  The AL Wild Card race is really going to be an exciting one.

In the AL East, Yankees (with their freshly poached, I mean acquired, Anthony Rizzo) and Blue Jays both had amazing five-game winning streaks this week.  The Red Sox are struggling, but all four clubs (Boston, New York, Toronto and Oakland are all within three games of each other for the pair of Wild Card spots.  It’s going to be an intense couple of weeks for the division!
