Korean Boy Bands to Watch: BTS-Bangtan Boys and Got7

There are two Korean boy bands that are starting to make waves in the U.S. The first is the BTS, a.k.a. Bangtan Boys.  The seven member group got their start back in 2013 in South Korea with their first album, “2 Cool 4 Skool.”  Included on that album was the hit “No More Dream” which earned the group a few “New Artist of the Year Awards” in 2013 from award shows like MelOn Music Awards, Golden Disk Awards and Seoul Music Awards in 2014.  What BTS is really known for is their huge social media presence.  In fact, Forbes magazine named them as the most retweeted artist on Twitter back in March of 2016.  To commemorate that, Twitter announced the first ever K-Pop Twitter emoji.  In October of 2016, Billboard names BTS as #1 on their Social 50 chart.

The other Korean boy band to take note of is Got7.  They are also a South Korean, seven member group.  They were formed in 2014 and consists of members from South Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong and the United States.   About three years ago on Jan. 20, 2014, the group released their first EP, “Got It?” which quickly charted at the number 2 spot on the Gaon Album Chart.  Got7 released their fist studio album, “Identify” in Nov. 0f 2014.  Their next album, “Flight Log: Turbulance” was released in 2016.  That album debuted at number one on Billboard’s World Albums chart and sold 2,000 copies in the US.
